is it just to early to set up a feeder

Anything to do with the magnificent whitetails

is it just to early to set up a feeder

Unread postby biggamecameraman » Mon Jul 24, 2017 8:43 pm

last deer season in late november I got lucky and picked up a NEW property to film whitetail hunting with a bow . I have had a mineral site going for 8 months now . this 11 acre piece is in central new jersey that does not have any standing corn , oak trees or any fruit baring trees in the area . is it just to early to set up a feeder in late july . what are you thoughts :?:

Never too early.
But, I will say, you. May have a bachelor group of bucks show up and that will get you very excited, but come late Aug, they shed velvet and disperse leaving you several hundred dollars lighter from all the corn you've dumped all summer for nothing ;)

Not saying it happens every time, but on 11 acres it's hard to follow the herd.

I like to start with a simple block that lasts several weeks now, and then come mid Aug I'll start with the weekly 50lb feedings per camera.

i havent been on here much but Pete I would NOT put a feeder in there its to LATE. If you have bucks coming in to your stand site your going to scare the crap out of them with a feeder pushing them off that property. Just like Jay said your better off dumping corn once a week, If I put a feeder out I always do it before April that way it gives the deer months to get use to going to them.

Good thread. Thanks Pete. There is no way I can maintain a feeder all year so I usually start in Sept. Maybe the licks or mineral blocks are a better idea for now.
My biggest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my guns and fishing rods for what I told her I paid for them.
