Nephew Kills Pa Farm Boss

Nephew Kills Pa Farm Boss

Every year I go upstate for Memorial Day. It's kind of like a family reunion for my wife's side of the family. My nephew Joey just started hunting. He asked me to take him out turkey hunting on Saturday. I said sure.

I got up there on Thursday. Friday morning I went out on a reconnaissance mission. I found two good birds on one of the farms we have permission to hunt. Joey showed up Friday night. I told him about the birds. He was very excited.

We got to the farm early in the morning. I had a pretty good idea where the birds were roosted. We slipped in under the cover of darkness set up our dekes and we're all settled in by 5am. About 5:30 am Joey points across the field. I said did you hear a gobble. He says no I see a turkey.

I look to my right and see a big tom coming our way in a hurry. I say get ready Joe he is coming. He shifts to his right to get in position for the shot. The bird is coming at our decoys fast and hard! At 20 yds I say kill him Joe. He shoots the bird staggers but is still on his feet. I say Joe give it to him again! Joey works the pump action and blasts him again the bird flys up into the air and then crashes into the hedge row.

We run to the hedge row and recover the bird. We are both very excited and start high fiving and hugging each other. This was Joeys first kill. Turns out to be a really good bird. 1" 1/4 spurs 10" 1/2 beard 21lbs. Taxi said he was a 4 or 5 yr old. Big old Pa farm boss!

Great story. You created another hunter in the next generation of hunters. Real nice bird.
My biggest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my guns and fishing rods for what I told her I paid for them.

Thanks for the response guys. Joey is 17. He just started hunting a couple of years ago. This was only the second time I had him out turkey hunting and he got his first turkey and his first kill. He was cranked up for three days after that. Me too. Lol! Definitely one of my best hunts ever!
