passing the time tonight

Figured with the rain and not much going on I'd take the time to clean my 870. It's been a while since I cleaned and polished her. I'm not a clean freak with my guns normally. With the exception of my muzzleloader. Cleaned the barrel. Lubed the action, reassembled and put the sling back on. I also added a fiber optic sight last week that worked out really well on Monday! I had and old Remington cleaning kit that has worked fine for everything. Couple years ago I got bit by the million "Otis cleaning system" commercials and finally bought one. Well what a piece of crap it is. Its got more small and loose parts, cables, lube and patches it makes it the job more than what it has to be. The only thing it has going for it is that if you were on a trip and wanted to pack it. That's about it and still its a pain to pull everything out to find what you need and it all has to be packed and folded the way it was in there or it won't zipper shut. It wasn't a cheap kit either. I think I paid close to $65 for it at bangers. I'm back to using my Remington kit.
