Camping at Round Valley

Unread postby Joe » Tue Jul 16, 2013 11:47 pm

Headed to Round Valley tomorrow to camp out for the night. 6 mile hike to the site I'm looking to camp out at. Anyone ever camp at Round Valley? I would like to catch my dinner, I know I can catch pan fish on a fly easily but I would like to catch a catfish or trout for dinner. Anyone ever camp at Round Valley and can recommend a good fishing spot?

Joe,

I have fished there quite a bit over the years (been awhile now)...trout will be a tad difficult from the shore especially using a fly rod...That reservoir is 180ft deep and drops off pretty quickly on the backside to where if you are hiking that far in, is where you are headed. But south east (from boat launch) part of the resirvoir has some great bass fishing. To fish that place right you really need a boat and a conventional rod and reel. To catch the big trout you need a boat and down riggers.

To catch your dinner I would stick by the dam and fish the little cove off to the right of it...should hit a variety of fish there including cats...

Good luck be safe and can't wait to see picks!

JOE, Ive camped many times there. We used to fish at night from the shore with some success. We caught catfish and one trout in the several years of trying.. Awesome place to camp....Watch out for the storms in that area, we always seemed to get heavy rain every time we camped..
