The Christmas Striper Special

The Christmas Striper Special

Unread postby MuskyMadness » Wed Jan 03, 2018 12:16 am

As most every fall (and spring run) there are good days and bad as far as the weather and whether there are stripers within a 100 miles....  yup, not as easy as it looks sometimes.

bad weather cancels a lot of trips... that happens.  Even with good weather you gotta have fish around to actually catch them.  Then there is size... size does matter.  Gotta have a 28" to 43" fish or one fish over 43 in NJ.

After a cancelled trip due to weather we finally got out...Dec 23rd.  The Christmas striper special.  Santa delivered great weather as far as I'm concerned... Good winds too.  Armed with some Penn Reels, decent weather and the hope of stripers we set sail at 6am out of Mystic Island with Capt Gary Dugen....on "The Irish Jig"  We headed right on out of the marina this time.  From there we headed south to catch some striper in the Brigantine area.

The bite was NOT on!!!  Without a rod popping off well into our second hour I was losing some hope...We trolled mainly about 3 to 4 knots in 40 to 60 ft of water.  First to pop off was a mojo rig in white pattern/color.  Then another, instantly we doubled up!  alas only my fish was landed...a decent 35 incher.  Here are some pics....and the remaining 3 other fish.  We lost as many as we landed but a fun filled day and lots of action....when the action was on...

Go Fishing.
