ANY PREDICTION ON THE FALL 2016 ACORN CROP?

Unread postby biggamecameraman » Fri Jul 22, 2016 12:00 pm

It's mid-Summer, but not too soon to start thinking about the Fall hunting season.

By this time, we should be able to get a good idea of how productive the whitetails' favorite food sources will be.

Whitetail hunters know that the deers' all-time favorite food is acorns--full of fats and protein to get them through the Winter.

So, what's the word on the street? Does it look like there will be a plentiful acorn crop this Fall?

Do any members have ideas now about the prospects for other favorite seasonal food sources this coming Fall?

What I've seen so far is that with this heat and lack of rain the crop this year is going to be off a bit. I have not taken a walk in a few of my oak areas yet to see what they look like. But like 55 said they will drop and the critters will eat them.

i am hoping for a light acorn year.
maybe the deer will have a pattern this year.
i had a tough time. my main block is all oaks. the deer had no reason to travel.

it couldn't possible be as brutal as last year!!!there were mass crops from every kinda oak out there. lol. so I'm figuring kinda lite. deer hardly moved much do to fact was all they had to do was roll over in there beds and start eating them!!. the way this heat is going I think best bet will b hunting water holes and streams

Counted 30 to 40 deer last night on back roads in Chester county they eat everything it seems like ,They definitley had a good reproducing year a lot of little ones around ..Right now they have options .Later in the season acorns are there main source of food .But there's plenty of them .I drive around and scout still have not seen the one I'm looking for but when I do Pete .Im sure you will be invited ,Need some blood on my hands after seeing them everywhere I'm getting the itch .

there will be acorns there always is, but there will not be as many as last year, every two/three years we get that massive bumper crop that screws us all up but is very beneficial to our deer herd...last year was just unreal!
