Just got back from my New Mexico sheep hunt

Unread postby njhuntingguide » Mon Mar 30, 2015 10:48 pm

Saw about 40 sheep in 4 days and two that were worth shooting.Couldnt get within 700 yards of the two rams that were in the 30"s. Hunt is super hard. I think u got to be a little crazy even to do it.Not safe at all. But I had a fun time so im going back this fall to fill my tag. If any of guys are thinking of doing this hunt i would book for more then 4 days like i did and not try to use a bow. They are hunt it very hard since they open the season to everyone and are very smart. I made 6 stalks and close as i got to them was 280 yards and when i got up the cliff the big one wasnt there anymore. Also buy the best boots went threw two pair in 4 days. One pair the side ripped all way open and i was not happy about walking 2 more miles like that to get to the truck

Order a pair from Russell. I have a pair. No blisters 7 days on the shale. They held up great and great support and comfort. Grand Slam Sheep Hunter $600.

Its a M 2012 Colt .308. I shoot match 168 grain hollow points out of it. Wish they had a good range in NJ. Far as I can shoot at my club is 300 yards. So I only got 3 dots on my scope that i use. But out of all my rifle this one shoots the best group for sure. Only bad part is its heavy

Not yet Tomcbigbucks. I kill 2 stags in the USA. If i go out to New Zealand I probly will skip the red stag and hunt Tahr,Chamois, and small game hunt. The Big Red stags are the same as USA high fence and im backing off high fence hunts. Just not into it anymore i really dont care how big the fence is
