Good day in the field

Good day in the field

Unread postby Nevermoor » Thu Mar 09, 2017 11:35 pm

I got a call from a fellow club member inviting me to hunt over his dog for chukars. Of course I had to cancel another appointment but how often do opportunities like this occur? We had a good day in the field, a little warm at 66 degrees but the dog was wonderful to watch. Before this year I had not hunted small game since 1969. I sure missed out on a lot of good fun. Final score was 7 chukars. Guess what i'm having for dinner tomorrow.

My biggest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my guns and fishing rods for what I told her I paid for them.

I experimented today with a recipe from a web site devoted to cooking game. http://honest-food.net If you like to cook and can wade through his rambling explanations you will find good recipes.

I decided on cacciatore. I was pleasantly surprised with the results. The only thing missing was a big chunk of crusty bread but since I can't fit in to my brush pants I'm off bread for a while. Notice that I did not forego the vino, homemade of course.

Chukar was tasty but a little dry. But that could have been me leaving it in the oven a little too long. The recipe was for pheasant and these smaller birds didn't need to cook as long.
