Fishing smallmouth on Lake Erie

Unread postby Jennfullard » Sun Jan 25, 2015 5:32 pm

I thought I'd put this quick report up because I'm missing fishing bass on Erie already. Lake Erie is one of the Great Lakes known for hawgs! One of the main reasons for this is the amount of invasive gobies that has become a staple of their diet.
My go to bait is the Anglers Choice Kill Shot #154, it's a smoke purple with an iridescent belly that the smallies go nuts over. It also works really well on Lake Ontario. It is a dropshot bait.
I've added a few pics from what I caught on it this year. I've also added a pic of a huge goby I caught. The bait hanging off the hook is 4 inches so it will give you an idea why these smallies get big.

Very nice smallies. I could catch them all day and no other fish. I would enjoyed catching them.

Fishing smallmouth on Lake Erie

Unread postby Annabiz » Thu Jun 09, 2016 10:50 pm

I grew up on the western basin of Lake Erie in Ohio and have done a lot of smallmouth fishing. This time of year is hot on the reefs and near the islands...
