Slow Start became good year

Unread postby born2hunt » Fri Dec 05, 2014 8:39 pm

I wrote earlier that I just could not get into hunting this year. Seems it paid off in the long run. I think my not being in the woods constantly as I have previously kept my scent out of the woods and kept my areas unmolested. My lack of enthusiasm turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I had a good year so far and have put way less time and effort into it. Seems counter productive. I got a big doe at the end of fall bow, a 6 pointer during extended bow and a nice 7 pointer on the first day of muzzle loader. Funny thing is the way I interpreted the regulations for zone 23, I thought that even tho I bought a buck permit I could only get "one" deer. I cleaned and put away my muzzle loader till next year thinking I was done, till I reread the laws and it says one deer of either sex if you purchase a buck permit. So I have one more doe to get with the smoke pole and maybe 2 with the shotgun......In any event I had a very good season so far.

Not positive but I'm pretty sure it's only one deer in zone 23.

Season bag limit is one deer of either
sex if
the Antlered Buck Muzzleloader
Permit is
Muzzleloader
purchased. However, if the hunter
chooses not
to purchase the Antlered Buck
Muzzleloader Permit then the bag limit is
one
antlerless deer......This is the problem..it is so ambiguous that you don't know what to do....

That's the problem.....I shot one deer extended bow because I thought that was all I was allowed. But after rereading the law, I think it say's if you buy the buck permit then it is one deer of either sex. ...Why make it so hard to understand ?

The way I understand it is if you buy buck tag you can kill a buck or a doe. If you shoot a doe your buck tag is no longer valid in that zone. It is confusing I just stopped hunting zone 23. Let me know if you get a clear answer.

^^^ This is correct^^^

It's one deer of either sex if you buy the buck tag, OR one antlerless deer if you don't. Either way, it's one deer, it's just that if you buy the buck tag, that ONE deer can be either sex, if you don't buy the buck tag, antlerless only.

Congrats on your deer, just don't shoot another one there.
